CRIT Baja California

Centro de Rehabiitacion Infantil Teleton

CRIT is a state-of-the-art pediatric facility that opened its doors in November 2010 to offer services to children with neurological and musculoskeletal disabilities and to their families. CRIT was built and is supported from funds raised by the Teleton Foundation.

The Foundation is the largest private child rehabilitation system in the world. The Teleton is an annual event started in 1997 and is broadcast live nationally to collect funds to help create CRIT centers in cities across Mexico. CRIT Baja California was the seventeenth facility built. Teleton Foundations goal is to have a CRIT in every state of Mexico. The 22 Centers that currently operate throughout Mexico benefit more than 27,000 thousand people a year, through rehabilitation services that seek to promote the full development and inclusion in society of the children served.

The staff and a network of over 50 volunteers at CRIT Baja California provide a safe and productive environment to help the children achieve self-sufficiency and a productive life. They have a dedicated medical staff and the latest amenities to provide the best care possible to all of their patients. The building is a large orange colored starfish shape with bright colors inside making it a cheerful and happy place. It boasts a large, modern playground outside that is wheelchair accessible and large cafeteria and dining area for families. There are also doctors’ offices and several therapy rooms for different types of treatments including a heated swimming pool for water therapy. Parents and therapists work with the kids in the pool and there are hot tubs for just the therapist and child. There is wheelchair training and a practice area where kids get used to using their wheelchairs over rocks, sand and even a flight of stairs.

CRIT Baja California has helped thousands of children with disabilities which before 2011, was not available in La Paz. There is no other option like CRIT available to families in the State. Many need to travel over 12 hours for appointments and therapies.

A Fund-raiser to Remember

"Clara Perez Mendez is a very dear friend, is active in her community and is a volunteer for CRIT.  Clara also volunteers for our fundraising cruises for FANLAP & CONAFE and is very familiar with our fundraising efforts.  Clara came to us with the intent of providing a day cruise for her friends and associates with the offer to donate funds to our charities.  Knowing of Clara’s efforts with CRIT we decided to fund her charity and pledged the funds to CRIT.
So, we had we had a day cruise to Bonanza with 12 adults and I child.  Clara provided all food and beverage.  We all had a fabulous day on the water and did good things our community."
